Bandera County

Known as the “Cowboy Capital of the World”, Bandera County is in the Texas Hill Country 25 miles northwest of San Antonio. The county seat is the city of Bandera, which is also the largest town in the county. A colorful cast of settlers had a hand in establishing Bandera County: Lipan Apaches, Comanche, Spanish, Mormons, and Polish and German immigrants. Cattle and sheep ranching is still a prominent industry, while dude ranches allow tourist a taste of the cowboy lifestyle. Plentiful deer and turkey make Bandera County a hunter’s paradise.

The Bandera County Courthouse is located at 500 Main Street in Bandera (830-796-4606). There are six county judges. In addition to the courthouse, there is also a Bandera County Justice Center at 3360 State Hwy 173 North (830-796-4606). The 54,000 SF correctional and justice building has two courtrooms, one district court, one multipurpose courtroom, administrative offices, prisoner holding areas, and jury deliberation rooms.
